At CareWell Urgent Care, we strive to ensure exceptional urgent care for everyone. Our experienced, caring providers and clinical staff make this mission possible.
Our staff spotlights allow us to introduce you to these exceptional team members. In this spotlight, we focus on Drew Sechrest, a family nurse practitioner and lead provider at CareWell.
Meet Drew Sechrest, FNP-C ENP-C
Drew earned his Master of Science in Nursing from Emory University and practiced as an FNP in emergency room (ER) and urgent care settings before joining CareWell. As a lead provider for the last year, he has brought his love of learning and drive for excellence to our team.
Drew loves to read, and he often applies the insights he gleans to his practice. From Hungarian psychologists to the NFL medical director, Drew finds practical wisdom from many sources. A well-rounded person, he also enjoys staying fit, caring for his plants, paddle boarding, and spending time with family.
Why Did You Decide To Work at an Urgent Care?
Drew practiced as an FNP in a community ER before transitioning to urgent care. His time in the ER allowed him to develop skills in caring for patients of all ages and managing a variety of illnesses. Through it all, Drew has found a great deal of fulfillment.
“Having a sense of purpose is important to me,” says Drew. “Having the ability to help others in the healthcare setting has given me that opportunity.”
What Do You Love About Your Work?
Drew loves working as part of an effective, efficient team to ensure patients receive excellent care. For Drew, an important part of this is what some psychologists term “flow,” a state when your skills are a match for the challenges you face.
“The days when I am challenged to the peak of my skill set are the most fulfilling,” says Drew. “I work with very talented and compassionate clinical peers. Each day, we get into a state of ‘group flow’ by identifying clear goals and having the shared purpose of delivering as much high-quality care to as many patients as we can.”
As a lead provider, Drew applies his passion for learning to his role. “Studying topics like flow psychology, sports psychology, and especially heuristics have helped inform how I frame my role within the organization,” says Drew. “These disciplines fuel my curiosity and drive me to find ways to implement practical concepts at an individual and systems level.”
“One of the most satisfying ways to improve the workday for our providers is identifying day-to-day friction and removing these variables to help them get into flow,” says Drew.
What Do You Hope To Give to Your Patients?
From the big picture of provider and organizational efficiency to the moments of connecting with a sick patient, Drew is a caring provider to the core. He hopes his patients experience compassion and confidence in the care they’ve received.
“My goal for any patient interaction is for this person who is hurt, sick, or otherwise needs guidance to feel heard and valued,” says Drew. “Sometimes, a strong handshake and eye contact are enough. To truly connect with someone, they need to feel understood.”
